It is generally recommended that young children come in for their first dental appointment when they receive their first baby tooth, or when they reach one year of age – whichever happens first. When this happens, the permanent tooth may end up coming in sideways, or even in the wrong place entirely. This will cause a child to need orthodontic care a bit later on. Baby teeth also help a child develop clear speech habits. And finally, baby teeth help the child to chew his or her food so that it can be easily digested.
